Position Summary

As an Interior Designer, you are central to the creation and delivery of interior environments that are both imaginative and highly functional, enhancing user experience and aligning with the overall vision. This role demands a strong design sensibility combined with technical expertise, enabling you to contribute meaningfully to the success of projects across a variety of sectors including workplace, education, cultural, and public spaces.

You will be actively involved throughout the project life cycle - from early concept development and client engagement through detailed documentation, coordination, and construction. Working in close collaboration with Project Leads, senior interior designers, architects, consultants, and other stakeholders, you will help ensure that design outcomes meet aesthetic ambitions, performance requirements, and project constraints.

Qualifications required:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Interior Design or related field, such as Bachelor’s degree, Diploma, or Certificate
  • Experience: Generally, a minimum 3 years of experience in Interior Design.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Management & Design

  • Collaborate with project team and clients to understand contract requirements, project brief and deliverables, team structure and communication protocols.
  • Work with the management team to take a lead role on smaller projects, or package lead on larger projects.
  • Contribute to the presentation of design proposals to clients, addressing questions, concerns, and modifications as needed.
  • Contribute to creating innovative design options that align with the client's vision, functional requirements, and budget constraints.
  • Design floor plans, furniture layouts, and spatial arrangements that maximise functionality, effectiveness, and enhance user experience.
  • Collate and review project exemplars and precedent research, sketches, renders, and other visual aids to communicate design ideas effectively.
  • Select appropriate materials and products to create cohesive design schemes. Consider factors such as sustainability, durability, maintenance, performance, aesthetic appeal, cost, and impact on Country when choosing materials.
  • Ability to reference material trade information, Australian Standards, building codes, council requirements and industry best practices that align with the design concept and client requirements.
  • Analyse and interpret data to inform design decisions and solutions.

Documentation

  • In collaboration with the Project Lead and senior team members, be able to produce clear and concise documentation to a level necessary to satisfy the target milestone, the project brief and the relevant documentation standards.
  • Have a general understanding of construction detailing requirements for a broad range of projects.
  • Develop renders and virtual walkthroughs in accordance with the Digital Delivery Plan or BIM Execution Plan for the project, to help clients visualise the final design.
  • Assist in project coordination activities and document control.

Construction Phase Services

  • Work closely with COX team, consultants, contractors, and other professionals to ensure seamless integration of design concepts into the construction process.
  • On occasion travel to and visit project construction sites to observe construction progress and assist in composing site reports like Site Quality Advice and Defect Inspection reports. Site visits may require travel involving both day trips and some overnight stays when required
  • Collaborate with the Project Lead in reviewing shop drawings and samples, and answering RFIs
